Guinea’s acting president arrived in New York on Monday evening to attend the 78th ordinary session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Guinean junta leader was greeted by members of the government who preceded him to the United States. As soon as he arrived, Colonel Mamadi Doumbouya outlined the main points of his speech in the UN Tribune.
On his Facebook page, the head of the Guinean junta said that the 78th ordinary session of the United Nations General Assembly was being held in a global context characterised by persistent economic difficulties and threats of all kinds, the complexity of which challenged the world’s leaders.
“Raising the voice of my country, sharing with world leaders my vision of a united Guinea, resolutely oriented towards development, will be my main lines of communication,” the Guinean leader.
However, Colonel Doumbouya made no mention of a return to constitutional order in Guinea.
The Economic Community of West African States and Guinea have agreed on a 24-month transition period beginning in January 2024.
In recent weeks, the Guinean government has repeatedly pointed to a lack of proactivity on the part of technical and financial partners to finalize the $600 million financing package that should enable the country to move towards a return to constitutional order.
According to our information, the president of the CNRD will deliver his speech on Thursday, September 21.
Representatives of the Political Forces of Guinea plan to demonstrate in front of the United Nations headquarters to denounce, according to them, the violation of the human rights under Doumbouya.
