APA-Conakry (Guniea) The sackings follow a power cut that plunged the Guinean capital into darkness.
The head of Guinea’s transitional government, General Mamadi Doumbouya has wielded the axe in the enegry sector where several senior officials were sacked on Saturday 16 March.
Those who fell include Laye Sekou Camara, Director General of ‘Electricité de Guinee’ (EDG) and two of his deputies, as well as Amadou Doumbouya, head of the ‘Societe Nationale des Petroles’ (SONAP) and one of his colleagues who were relieved of their duties.
In the same vein, officials of the ‘Agence nationale d’aménagement des infrastructures minieres’ have been dismissed.
General Doumbouya’s decision came two days after a power cut plunged the capital, Conakry, into total darkness.
Demonstrations broke out in response to the blackout, causing damage to property and the deaths of two adolescents, according to local media reports.
Guinea’s new Prime Minister, Amadou Oury Bah, said on Friday that those responsible for the power outages would be held to account.
A statement from EDG had previously attributed the blackout to an incident on a high-voltage pylon.
