Mohamed Diane is being prosecuted for misappropriation of public funds, illicit enrichment and money laundering.
The trial of the former Minister of Defense resumed this Monday, March 27 before the trial chamber of the Court of Repression of Economic and Financial Offenses (CRIEF).
At the opening of today’s hearing, the president of the trial chamber first communicated on the exceptions raised by the defense on March 20. Exceptions relating to the request for release in favor of their client, introduced before the Supreme Court.
Judge Francis Kova Zoumanigui rejected all the objections raised by the lawyers before ordering the opening of the substantive debates.
Faced with this decision, the defense of Mohamed Diane, who threatened to sulk if the case was dismissed, left the courtroom.
As they left the courtroom, Mr. Mohamed Berete and his colleagues declared that their client (Mohamed Diane) would “remain silent” throughout the trial. This is an attitude that Alpha Conde adopted during his trial in 1998.
Former Minister of Defense and Presidential Affairs under the regime of Alpha Conde, Mohamed Diane was charged and placed under a detention warrant on April 6, 2022.
