APA – Conakry (Guinea) The President of the Guinean Transition has cracked down on three prisoners who escaped from Conakry prison on 4 November.
In an initial decree signed on Sunday 5 November, Mamadi Doumbouya removed colonels Moussa Thiegboro Camara, Claude Pivi and Blaise Goumou from the Guinean army. These three officers and Moussa Dadis Camara, former president of the junta, escaped from Conakry prison last Saturday.
According to the presidential decree, these three military officers have been struck off the Guinean armed forces for “misconduct.” They are all accused in the 28 September 2009 massacre case.
Colonel Doumbouya has also disbarred dozens of soldiers for various reasons, including “dereliction of duty, misconduct or gross negligence.”
Six senior prison officers were also struck off for “misconduct” in another decree issued by the Guinean leader.
Nearly 60 soldiers and prison officers have been removed from their corps for “gross misconduct”.
Colonel Claude Pivi, the only fugitive among the four escapees, has yet to be found. His lawyer told the press that he did not know his destination.
The Public Prosecutor at the Conakry Court of Appeal has instructed the prosecutors’ offices in his jurisdiction to immediately refer the case to the Central Judicial Investigation Department of the National Gendarmerie for further investigation into “the murder of defence and security forces officers in the exercise of their regalian duties, manslaughter, abandonment of post, violation of instructions and complicity in connection with the escape from Conakry prison on the night of 03 to 04 November 2023.”
According to APA sources, at least seven people were killed in the clashes between members of the Guinean armed forces and the commando who escaped the four prisoners.
