APA-Nairobi (Kenya) Nine people including Kenya’s military chief, Gen Francis Omondi Ogolla are now known to have died in a military helicopter crash on Thursday.
The tragedy happened in western Kenya as Gen Ogolla and ten other military officers were being transported.
There were only two survivors after the helicopter crashed in Elgeyo Marakwet county, 400km of Nairobi, shortly after taking off.
President William Ruto emerging from an emergency security meeting described the crash as a great tragedy for Kenya.
Gen Ogolla has been serving as head of the military since last year. He was Commander of the Air Force and Deputy Chief of Defence Forces before Ruto appointed him to lead the military.
Mr Ruto paid homage to Gen Ogolla as a martyr for Kenya, having been killed while on active service to the nation.
