APA – Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) The Bretton Woods institutions had suspended their support programme following last September’s coup in Burkina Faso.
On Monday, Captain Ibrahim Traoré met a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) led by Martin Schindler, deputy head of its Africa department.
The delegation said it was in Ouagadougou to support the transition underway in the country, as reported by the presidency.
To this end, the IMF is exchanging views with the authorities to find mechanisms for the Fund to support the transition’s development programme.
“With the head of state, we discussed the outlines of a programme that we have initiated with members of the government,” said Martin Schindler.
“We have already held discussions with the government on the reforms that Burkina Faso has initiated, with the possibility of financial support from our institution,” added the IMF’s Deputy Director for Africa.
Since the coup in September 2022, the Bretton Woods institutions had suspended their financing of development programmes in Burkina Faso, but recently announced a resumption of the intervention following negotiations to that end.
