Speaking at a workshop organised by Interpol, Botswana Police deputy commissioner responsible for operations Dinah Marathe revealed that Botswana has witnessed an influx of illicit drugs from international drug lords as well as suppliers from neighbouring countries.
According to Marathe, the syndicates have now infiltrated schools in the southern African country.
Marathe said crossborder crimes such as human trafficking, environmental crime, drug trafficking and money laundering have a negative impact on economies as funds that could have been used for developments are often diverted to fighting these crimes.
The police boss commended Interpol for its continued support in the fight against transnational organised crimes.
The five-day workshop is attended by officers from Botswana, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and other countries.
