A high-level Ivorian delegation is attending the Radiocommunication Assembly 2023 in Dubai, organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
Yacouba Coulibaly, Director General of the Ivorian Radio Frequency Management Agency (AIGF), and Ms. Namahoua Bamba Touré, Director General of the Ivorian Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (ARTCI), met with Ms. Doreen Bogden-Martin, Secretary General of the ITU, on the occasion of the Radiocommunication Assembly 2023.
The ITU, the United Nations specialised agency for information and communication technologies (ICT), plays a key role in setting technical standards and allocating frequencies for the smooth operation of mobile, Internet and satellite networks.
At this bilateral meeting, the Directors-General congratulated the Secretary-General on her election and welcomed her promotion as a step forward for gender parity within the ITU. Discussions focused on several key issues related to Côte d’Ivoire’s digital future.
On 5G, the Ivorian delegation announced its launch during AfCON 2023, scheduled from January 13 to February 11, 2024, confirming the willingness of the state to adopt the latest technological innovations.
On the issue of white zones, Ivorian experts presented projects underway with the World Bank to extend connectivity to rural areas through initiatives such as the Rural Digital Case.
Gender parity was also addressed by the Ivorian delegation, which highlighted the increasing representation of women in decision-making positions in the administration since 2016.
Ms. Bogden Martin welcomed this progress, and spoke of the ITU’s launch of a group dedicated to women digital leaders.
This fruitful meeting demonstrates the commitment of Cote d’Ivoire and the ITU to work closely together to reduce the digital divide and make ICT a lever for inclusive development. The country is firmly committed to its digital transformation to improve services for citizens and businesses.
The 2023 edition of the Radiocommunication Assembly, a quadrennial meeting, will be held in the United Arab Emirates from November 13-17, 2023.
It is traditionally held the week before the World Radiocommunication Conference, which will be held from November 20 to December 15, 2023.
