Ivorian president Alassane Ouattara on Tuesday appointed Eugene Aka Aouélé as the new chairman of the Economic, Social, Environmental and Cultural Council (CESEC).
The position had been vacant since the death of its former occupant Charles Koffi Diby on December 7, 2019.
In a statement, the chief of staff of the Ivorian presidency, Abdourahmane Cissé, announced that the head of state has signed two decrees for the Economic, Social, Environmental and Cultural Council.
“The first decree appoints Mr Eugène Aka Aouélé as a member of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council. At the end of the second decree, Mr. Eugène Aka Aouélé is appointed President of the Economic, Social, Environmental and Cultural Council,” Mr. Cissé added.
Prior to this appointment, Aouélé was Minister of Health and Public Hygiene.
CESEC is a consultative institution that represents the main economic and social activities.
It also gives its opinion on draft laws, ordinances or decrees as well as proposed laws.
