The mayor of Hiré (Centre-West) in Cote d’Ivoire, Gilbert Francis Kacou, who was elected under the banner of the ruling Houphoutist Rally for Democracy and Peace (RHDP), announced on Monday 24 June 2024 his resignation from the party and his return to the opposition Democratic Party of Cote d’Ivoire (PDCI).
Following this announcement, made in a statement, the departmental secretariat of the RHDP in Hiré – Zego met on Sunday 30 June to assess the situation.
After consultation, the departmental secretariat of the RHDP informed local, regional, national and international opinion that it “takes note of this decision” by the chief magistrate of the commune of Hiré, in a statement.
Gilbert Francis Kacou was elected on 2 September 2023 with the support of the departmental secretariat, specialised structures, section secretaries and grassroots committee presidents, all of whom now distance themselves from him in the strongest possible terms following his decision to leave the RHDP.
These various organs of the ruling party have also declared that they no longer recognise him as a member of the RHDP.
Consequently, “the RHDP Hiré-Zego commune asks him to resign as mayor of the commune of Hiré.”
