The Ivorian Higher Council of Imams (COSIM) and the Ivorian Council of Sunni Imams (CODIS), on Monday, called on the community of faithfuls nationwide, to scan the skies tonight for signs of the moon, which would mark an end to a month of fasting.
“The two religious institutions wish to inform the Muslim community that on this day, June 3, 2019 is the 29th day of Ramadan, a day of doubt,” a joint statement by the two bodies say, inviting Muslims “to search for the crescent.”
This year’s fasting began in Cote d’Ivoire on May 6,after the moon was seen in Bondoukou in the country’s northeast.
During the month of fervent worship as the fourth pillar of Islam, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk for 29 or 30 days.
The month of Ramadan during which the Holy Qur’an was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), is a period of great generosity, solidarity and sharing.
