The University Felix Houphouet-Boigny of Abidjan on March 15, 2023 hosted a seminar aimed at strengthening the capacity of learners in the field of methodology in information science and communication.
About twenty communication students took part in the training seminar on research methodology, organised at the initiative of Professor Evariste Toa, director of the Communication Research Centre (CERCOM) of the University of Abidjan.
This session, sponsored by the media man, Alain Toussaint, took place in the projection room of the Training and Research Unit in Information, Art and Communication (UFRICA), under the supervision of Professor Pierre Adingra, a specialist in research methodology.
Professor Evariste Toa, said that in view of the inadequacies of students in terms of rules to observe in writing their doctoral thesis, this seminar was initiated to “share knowledge, questions and experiences of methodologies in social sciences and humanities in general and particularly in information and communication sciences.”
“These are tools that have been skilfully revisited and which constitute the basis for the development of the master’s dissertation and even more so for the thesis,” said the CERCOM director.
Journalist Alain Toussaint urged the students to focus on their training, which is a guarantee of their success in the job market, while presenting them with the opportunities that exist with the new media configuration.
He also invited them to study the media ecosystem to see what the business model could be in the era of new media, such as the internet and social media.
“You are coming to an era where you have multiple capabilities. You have made the right choice, you need to find the right economic model to advance the press in all its components,” said Alain Toussaint.
He added that “unlike others, you have received training. Make sure that in practice we know that you have received this knowledge,” referring to the plethora of people who call themselves communicators on digital platforms.
The students were given a series of modules, including quantitative analysis and reporting in the dissertation, presented by Dr Yeo Alfred.
The norms of bibliographic insertion were developed by Dr Koffi Kouamé.
Issues related to the literature review and discussion of the results were elucidated by Dr Vincent Zaouli.
The research methodology provides an overview of how a given research is conducted.
The research methodology further defines the techniques or procedures used to identify and analyse information about a specific research topic.
