Ivorian workers gathered in the General Union of Workers of Cote d’Ivoire (UGTCI), on Wednesday in Abidjan, handed over to the Minister of Reconciliation and National Cohesion, Bertin Konan Kouadio, also known as KKB, their contribution for a “sincere and successful” reconciliation in the country.
On a visit to the headquarters of the UGTCI, in Treichville (southern district of Abidjan), Minister KKB received this “documented contribution” from the hands of the first Deputy General Secretary of the trade union, Dorgeles Adouwetchi Assemien.
“I came to drink from the well of wisdom of the trade union,” said the Minister of Reconciliation and National Cohesion before UGTCI members.
“I went around the institutions, the traditional leaders, the NGOs to make sure that we are looking in the same direction. Now it’s the turn of the trade unionists,” said the minister, who began a series of meetings with the country’s five trade union centers on Tuesday.
“My wish is to involve you in this process because you have experience. We have no choice but to bequeath to our children and grandchildren, lasting peace, a peaceful Cote d’Ivoire,” he said.
“Let us cultivate trust between us and things will go without saying,” KKB added, feeling that “the reconciliation process has started and we are in the right direction.”
“I came to ask you. (…) The land, whether rural or urban, is the basis of several conflicts. It is at the center of this theme of reconciliation and social cohesion,” KKB concluded.
