APA-Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire) The French Football Federation (FFF) has turned down a request from the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) to “loan” Herve Renard, the coach of the French women’s team, to finish the 2023
African Cup of Nations.
The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) recently sent an official request to the FFF for Herve Renard to be “loaned out”, following the dismissal of Coach Jean-Louis Gasset for “insufficient results.”
“I support this approach of taking on Herve Renard, because Ermese Fae was Gasset’s assistant during the disaster,” the Elephants’ debacle against Equatorial Guinea (0-4), argues Abraham Mian, a web user.
“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result,” adds Abraham Mian, who believes that a coach of the calibre of Herve Renard, who won the title with the Elephants in 2015,
would be an asset.
Yvidero, an actress and TV presenter, believes that Côte d’Ivoire has
a “diamond” like Alain Gouamene at its side and yet will be looking out for Herve Renard. Some Africans, she says, have “a big inferiority complex, unfortunately,” because competent local coaches are available.
“We can’t have competent coaches on our own soil and pay them the same as expatriates,” she asks, referring to Senegal, who “are doing well with one of their own.” Yvidero insists that “all this has to change” if local coaches are to be valued.
“What kind of complex is this? Please, the best is not always to be found elsewhere. Show some respect for who you are and what you have,” reacted Charles Ble Goude, leader of the Pan-African Congress for Justice and Peoples’ Equality (COJEP), an Ivorian opposition party.
However, Herve Renard, the coach of the French women’s team, is interested.
Contacted by Infosport +, Herve Renard said that “negotiations did not come to a favourable conclusion. It’s just that it wasn’t meant to be. I would have loved to, but fate chose otherwise.”
Former Elephants coach Herve Renard is currently under contract with the FFF to coach the women’s team until August 2024.
He will not be extending his stint with the ‘Les Bleus’ women’s team, which means that after the summer he could be on the Ivorian bench once again.
