To meet its needs in blood products, Cote d’Ivoire has invited its population to give blood regularly.
In Cote d’Ivoire, 1 to 2% of the population, that is 250,000 people out of about 28 million inhabitants, must regularly donate blood for the country to be self-sufficient in blood products. This estimate was made on Wednesday in Abidjan by Dr. Joseph Assohoun, doctor of the mobile collection of the National Blood Transfusion Centre (CNTS).
He was speaking at the launch of a blood donation operation for agents of the Social Welfare Institution – General Pension Fund for State Agents of Cote d’Ivoire (IPS-CGRAE) which is being held from 17 to 19 August 2022.
Dr. Assohoun said that this blood donation operation which will take place in Abidjan and in the interior of the country should allow the collection of at least 100 blood bags.
“I would like to salute the Director General of the CGRAE who has kindly opened the doors of his institution to the CNTS. We are really in need,” he said, stressing that “we are all potential recipients and we must all be concerned” by this gesture.
