One of former president Jacob Zuma’s children, Dudu Zuma-Sambudla, has confirmed her support for Russia in the latter’s war against neighbouring Ukraine which broke out two weeks ago , a press report said on Wednesday.
Zuma’s daughter confirmed her support during her visit, with self-taken images of her standing outside a palace in St. Petersburg, Russia’s cultural capital, the report said.
“We do not need the West. I repeat: We do not need the West. BRICS is where it’s at,” she said.
South Africa and Russia are members of BRICS which lumps them alongside Brazil, India and China in an economic group.
Zuma-Sambudla took to social media to confirm her visit to Russia despite the ongoing conflict with Ukraine, it said.
Zuma-Sambudla’s public support for Russia come two days after her father, the former South African leader, publicly endorsed Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine.
Zuma claimed “Putin felt provoked,” and was justified in his response to invade Kyiv to stop it from joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), the security organisation of the Western countries.
Zuma said Russia and Ukraine could have solved their issues amicably had it not been for the interference of “Western powers” – whom he did not name.
