APA-Niamey (Niger) Japan has evacuated its citizens from Niger where political uncertainty has followed last week’s ouster of civilian president Mohamed Bazoum.
In response to the situation in Niger, all ten Japanese citizens who had requested evacuation from Niger were evacuated by the early morning of August 3rd to Paris.
They were airlifted by an aircraft arranged by the French government.
The government of Japan said it will continue to do everything possible to ensure the safety of Japanese citizens in Niger.
The uranium-rich Sahel nation faces possible military invasion by the regional grouping Ecowas to reverse the coup led by General Abdourahmane Tchiani whose regime has vowed to defend the country from external aggression.
Ecowas has imposed sanctions and gives the military junta seven days to reinstate Mr. Bazoum, who was elected president two years ago.
Niger’s neighbours Mali and Burkina Faso also ruled by the military have vowed to defend the junta in Niamey in the face of a Nigeria-led Ecowas invasion.
They have also threatened to leave the 15 member regional organisation.
