The Japanese government says it will dispatch a team to the Democratic Republic of Congo to assess the extent of the havoc unleashed by ebola epidemic currently blighting the country.
In a statement on Friday, Japan’s Foreign Affairs ministry said its team which will be deployed on Saturday will be composed of infectious disease experts and officials of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The Ebola virus disease outbreak is currently worst in the eastern part of the DRC.
The Japanese team will identify the needs of the affected areas and formulate the assistance plan based on talks with the Congolese government of the Democratic in conjunction with international organizations like the WHO, which last month declared the outbreak in DRC as a global health emergency.
