In a joint counter-terrorism operation, Moroccan and Spanish security agencies successfully neutralized a group of young individuals who had undergone radicalization by the Islamic State (ISIS).
The Spanish Civil Guard, acting on intelligence provided by the Moroccan Territorial Surveillance Agency (DGST), arrested three suspects in the central province of Toledo. Investigations, which began in late 2023, revealed that one of the suspects was actively spreading jihadist propaganda through social media platforms.
The investigation also uncovered that a minor had been exposed to this extremist content. Subsequent searches, conducted with the crucial assistance of the DGST, led to the seizure of multimedia material containing violent extremist content, including videos promoting suicide attacks.
In separate operations in Madrid and Pontevedra, the Civil Guard apprehended individuals who had concealed jihadist propaganda within seemingly innocuous videos, such as fitness and self-defense tutorials. These videos contained hidden messages and songs aimed at indoctrinating viewers with ISIS ideology.
The operations were conducted under the supervision of the Central Investigation Court, in coordination with the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the National Court and Europol, with the aim of dismantling radicalization networks and preventing potential terrorist threats.
This successful joint operation highlights the crucial role of international cooperation in combating the spread of extremism and mitigating the threat of terrorism.
