It was gathered that the policemen and a military man on Thursday in Accra assaulted a
female journalist, Raissa Sambou and her two other colleagues, Malik Sulemana and
Salifu Abdul Rahman.
The report by the Ghanaian Times on Friday said that the journalists were physically
assaulted when they attempted to engage a police officer, who is yet to be identified,
for crossing the red lights and damaging the bumper, mirror and windscreen of
their official vehicle with an unregistered motor bike.
In the process, the officer, whose picture was captured and published on the front
page of the newspaper, hit the nursing mother on the tummy, leaving her
unconscious.
She was rushed to the Greater Accra Regional Hospital after going through the
ordeal of dealing with the assault from one of the officers, who joined their
colleagues to beat the journalists.
Malik, on the other hand, was also thrown into a police cell at the Ministry Police
Station for hours before he was released to receive medical attention, after sustaining
a cut on the face.
Mr. Rahman, the Senior Assistant Editor, who was also at the place to intervene,
was heckled by the police and threatened to stop or they would have his items
confiscated.
