President Salva Kiir on Thursday in Juba presided over the swearing in ceremony for Akec Tong Aleu after his appointment as the new Director General of the Internal Security Bureau of the National Security Service.
It follows the sacking of General Akol Koor Kuc amid growing insecurity in some parts of the country.
The South Sudanese leader said his office would give its full backing to the new Director General.
President Kiir directed Aleu to meet South Sudan’s security challenges with poise and determination.
Aleu succeeds General Akol Koor Kuc, after the latter was appointed as the governor of Warrap State.
Kuc’s appointment was as part of the government’s strategy to strengthen governance at both national and state levels, President Kiir’s office said in a statement.
