Kenya says it is planning the evacuation of its citizens from Lebanon which has been included in the widening conflict in the Middle East.
The government in Nairobi in a statement on Wednesday advises all its nationals in Lebanon to register themselves by October 12th for eventual repatriation from the war-torn country.
Kenya’s Foreign and Diaspra Affairs ministry says two batches of its nationals have already been evacuated from Lebanon where a military showdown between the paramilitary group Hezbollah and the Israeli Defense Force enters its second day.
The ministry warned that those who had registered will be given priority for evacuation than others who were not.
Over 500 people have been killed in mutiple air strikes in the Labanese capital Beirut as the Israeli military pursue the Iranian-backed Hezbollah for rocket attacks on Israel.
Hundreds of Africans including Kenyans live in Lebanon as university students and menial workers.
Many have complained of being abandoned to their fate by their fleeing Lebanese employers and their families when the unrest began last week.
