On Thursday 2 May, the President of the Republic of Kenya, William Ruto, promoted Lieutenant General Charles Muriu Kahariri to the rank of General and appointed him Chief of Defence Forces, replacing General Francis Ogalla who died in a helicopter accident in April this year.
The Kenyan leader has also promoted Major General John Mugaravai Omenda to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed him Deputy Chief of Defence, according to the army’s X account. Prior to this appointment, General John Mugaravai Omenda was Commander of the Kenyan Air Force.
In addition, the President has appointed General Fatuma Gaiti Ahmed to the Kenyan Air Force as Commander. Similarly, Major General Paul Owuor Otieno has been appointed Commander of the Kenya Navy.
President Ruto also approved the recommendations of the Defence Council and made various promotions, postings and appointments of officers in the Kenya Defence Forces.
