Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Barasa highlighted the crucial role FBOs play in reaching underserved communities and achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) during the opening of a consultative meeting in Mombasa.
Dr. Barasa outlined key initiatives aimed at achieving UHC, including a fully funded primary healthcare system, enhanced ICT integration, and the newly established Social Health Insurance Fund. She urged FBOs to actively participate in these efforts, noting that the Social Health Authority (SHA) has already registered over 12.7 million Kenyans.
The government has implemented legislative reforms, such as the Social Health Insurance Act of 2023, to make healthcare more affordable and ensure sustainable financing. Dr. Barasa encouraged further collaboration between FBOs and the government in registering Kenyans into the SHA system and providing quality healthcare to all.
As Kenya strives to achieve UHC, Dr. Barasa reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to building a resilient healthcare system and called on FBOs to continue their vital support to communities. She emphasized the need for unity in this mission to ensure that every Kenyan has access to the healthcare they deserve.
