A Rwandan prosecutor on Wednesday demanded three-year jail sentences for three Kenyan “motivation speakers” including Dr Charles Chege Kinuthia who masterminded last month a “Wealth Creation conference” scam.
On the material day, over 5,000 people thronged the centre but were stranded as no speaker turned up where the majority of unsuspecting youth descended from all corners of Rwanda to a Kigali Convention Centre (KCC) where the alleged meeting was supposed to take place.
Dr Kinuthia is an associate of Dr Clyde Rivers, President of ‘I Change Nations‘, which brands itself as a global humanitarian and business development entity. Dr Rivers is Honorary Ambassador at Large for the Republic of Burundi.
Dr Clyde has that role “as appointed by H.E. President Pierre Nkurunziza and Special Advisor to President Pierre Nkurunziza, President of Republic of Burundi Africa”, according to his website.
Dr Kinuthia has been held in Kigali by Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) since June this year is being tried in a series of other cases, along with two other female suspects and a Rwandan male.
The kenyan trio are Dr Charles Chege Kinuthia, Rachel Matipei Nashipai and Vivian Khisa Mukhwana Mutenyo, it said.
Prosecutors have accused the trio of sending an e-mail promising over 1,000 people “free money” worth $197 by attending a conference at the iconic Kigali Convention Centre.
In Kenya, Mr Kinuthia has occasionally regarded himself as a lucrative high-flying businessman handling tax, accounting and wealth generation matters. He goes by the stage name Coach CK. He also claims to own several companies across the world and has been featured in local newspapers and on TV as an entrepreneur.
On his LinkedIn page, Mr Kinuthia says he has a PhD in humanities. He says he later shifted to Texas (USA), where he started One Stop Tax Services, “a national income tax preparation franchise with its headquarters in Houston.”
