According to media reports, Buhari, 76, took an unassailable lead of more than four million votes with the last states yet to be declared, making it impossible for his nearest rival, Atiku Abubakar, to win.
“I write to convey my warm congratulations following your re-election as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” said Kenyatta in a statement.
“Your election victory is a clear demonstration of the trust and confidence the people of Nigeria have in your ability to lead your country to greater heights of progress,” he added.
Kenyatta pointed out that Kenya and Nigeria enjoy longstanding cordial relations and a strong cooperation in many areas.
“I look forward to continue working closely with Your Excellency to in consolidating these mutually beneficial areas of cooperation for the greater good of our two countries,” he added.
