APA – Kigali (Rwanda) – King Abdullah II of Jordan will visit Rwanda on Sunday to further strengthen the partnership between the two countries, an official source confirmed to APA in Kigali.
Jordan and Rwanda have, over the past, cemented ties based on agreements including the waiving of visa for both citizens.
It is expected that King Abdullah II will visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial at Gisozi and hold bilateral talks with President Paul Kagame, according to diplomatic sources.
In February last year, Rwanda and Jordan signed three Cooperation Agreements ocusing on political consultations, higher education, and Visa Waiver for Diplomatic, Service, and Special Passports.
Speaking at the occasion, Jordan’s Foreign Minister, Ayman al-Safadi, praised Rwanda’s role in the Aqaba Process, an initiative aimed at combating terrorism through pooling resources.
In 2015, King Abdullah II launched the Aqaba Process to comprehensively address interconnected counter-terrorism and violent extremist threats through informal discussions around three key themes including; Prevention, Coordination and ‘filling in the gaps.’
Earlier last December, Rwanda appointed the first ever Ambassador to Jordania a few weeks after the country decided to establish a diplomatic presence in the Jordanian capital as the two nations seek to bolster cooperation.
