APA-Maseru (Lesotho) Lesotho’s King Letsie III will on Wednesday launch year-long commemorations of the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Basotho nation by his great-grandfather, Culture Minister Pitso Leasoana has announced.
Leasoana said the commemorations of the 1824 founding of Lesotho by King Moshoeshoe would take place during the country’s Independence Day celebrations to be held at Thaba-Bosiu Cultural Village on Wednesday.
He said the bi-centennial celebrations would run from this month until October 2024 and would involve “different activities that identify Basotho.”
Lesotho authorities have, meanwhile, called on Basotho to provide their views on how they want the bicentennial celebrations to be celebrated.
The Basotho nation was founded by King Moshoeshoe I in 1824 at Thaba Bosiu.
