Ugandan distance running sensation Jacob Kiplimo has etched his name in history, smashing the men’s half-marathon world record in Barcelona, Spain.
Kiplimo completed the race in an astonishing 56:42, surpassing the previous record of 57:30 set by Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha in Valencia, Spain, in October 2024, by a remarkable 48 seconds.
This record-breaking performance solidifies Kiplimo’s status as a global force in long-distance running. He crossed the finish line more than two minutes ahead of his Kenyan rival, Geoffrey Kipsang Kamworor, who finished second in 58:44.
At just 24 years old, Kiplimo has achieved a historic feat, becoming the first athlete to complete a half-marathon in under 57 minutes. This latest achievement marks a return to the top for Kiplimo, who previously held the world record with a time of 57:31 set in Lisbon in 2021.
A two-time world cross-country champion and a bronze medalist in the 10,000 meters at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, Kiplimo continues to demonstrate his exceptional talent and dominance in distance running.
