The Lagos State Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations on Thursday briefed the ECOWAS Election Observation Mission on Security ahead of Saturday’s Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections.
The ECOWAS Election Observation Mission assigned to the South-West zone of Nigeria for the elections paid a working visit to the Lagos State Police Command on Thursday to introduce the observers to the Lagos Police Command and to receive some security tips.
According to the statement by the ECOWAS Commission, the security briefing was conducted by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, Mr. O. O. Odubona.
He welcomed the team, led by Mr. Ebenezer Asiedu, P.P.O. Mediation Facilitation, and expressed the Lagos Police Command’s appreciation to ECOWAS for the interest in Nigerian elections.
“The stakes are very high in the Gubernatorial and State Assembly elections and will be keenly contested and to ensure that the elections are hitch-free, the police has identified sensitive areas and conflict zones. Necessary steps are being taken,” he said.
He, therefore advised the ECOWAS Observers to avoid such sensitive areas and assured the team that police escort will be provided for them.
The Gubernatorial and State Assembly Elections are scheduled to take place on Saturday March 18, 2023.
