South Africa’s late King Goodwill Zwelithini’s funeral will be held at his KwaKhethomthandayo Royal Palace in Nongoma in KwaZulu Natal on Thursday morning, the presidency announced on Tuesday.
The king, aged 72, died after a long illness from diabetic complications at a Durban hospital last Friday.
Following his death, President Cyril Ramaphosa ordered all national flags to be flown at half-mast, and accorded the fallen monarch a first class Special Official Funeral.
This funeral category involves the military to preside over the “planting” of the king who ruled his Zulu Nation for 50 years before he succumbed to the sugar disease.
The state-funded SABC TV and radio, and other major broadcasters, also announced that they would broadcast live the funeral’s proceedings.
In addition, arrangements have been made for the funeral service to be streamed live on the government’s online platforms, the presidency said.
According to the presidency, these measures would be taken to assist those unable to physically attend the funeral due to the current Covid-19 lockdown restrictions follow the proceedings which are limited to 100 people per gathering.
