The Ivorian Constitutional Council has rejected the appeal of the city of Yamoussoukro’s outgoing MP, Kouassi Kouame Patrice, known as “KKP”, who accuses the ruling ‘Rally of Houphouetists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP), of “fraud” during the March 6, 2021 legislative elections, a source close to his party says.
Mr. Kouassi Kouame Patrice was one of the candidates of the Democratic Party of Cote d’Ivoire (PDCI, opposition) for the legislative poll held on March 6, 2021 in Yamoussoukro. He had publicly denounced, with his running mate, Baba Sylla, “14,000 fraudulent votes out of 20,000.”
“Yes, they (the members of the Constitutional Council, responsible for settling disputes over the legislative elections) have rejected the appeal,” a source within PDCI, a former RHDP ally, says.
Yamoussoukro, the birthplace of Felix Houphouët-Boigny, and a stronghold of PDCI, has two MP seats. The Constitutional Council, through its judgment, confirms the victory of RHDP over the Democratic Party of Cote d’Ivoire.
RHDP, led by Alassane Ouattara, won the majority of seats with 137 elected MPs, ahead of the opposition, which obtained 91 seats, while independent candidates won 26 seats, according to the provisional results proclaimed by the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI).
