APA-Maseru (Lesotho) Lesotho has imposed a night-time curfew starting Tuesday following the weekend murder of an investigative journalist in the capital Maseru.
Police Minister Lebona Lephema announced in a televised statement on Tuesday that movement would curbed between 10.00pm (2000 GMT) and 4.00am until further notice.
Failure to comply with the curfew would attract a two-year imprisonment or a fine.
This followed the killing of Tšenolo FM presenter Ralikonelo Joki near his workplace on Sunday night by unknown assailants.
Global media rights group Committee to Protect Journalists has called for a thorough investigation into Joki’s murder.
“Lesotho authorities must launch a credible investigation into the killing of journalist Ralikonelo ‘Leqhashasha’ Joki and hold those responsible to account,” the group said.
Joki, the host of the current affairs show “Hlokoana-La-Tsela” (I Heard It Through the Grapevine), covered government, agriculture, and corruption, and was best known for breaking a 2021 story about five politicians who were illegally trading alcohol.
