The Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC) is among Africa’s top energy regulators, an index has shown.
The LERC ranks 10th in the 2022 Electricity Regulatory Index (ERI) for Africa, coming barely months after it was nestled in 37th place according to the 2021 index.
43 African countries have been included in the latest ERI report after 45 regulatory authorities and institutions, participated in the assessment exercise.
According to the report, the process looked at the capacity of regulators to exercise regulatory oversight and the ability to achieve measurable outcomes.
The ERI report is in its fifth edition, and examines the performance of African energy regulators when set against international standards and best practices.
The ERI report depends on three areas to inform its conclusions on electricity regulators namely the Regulatory Governance Index (RGI), Regulatory Substance Index (RSI) and Regulatory Outcome Index (ROI).
