LNFS Director for Communication and Public Affairs Jarsah Garyah told reporters in Monrovia Monday that during the same period (2018) a total of 11 lost their lives as a result of fire outbreaks, while an additional ten people sustained injuries.
Garyah attributed the cause of fire incidents in the country to the use of candles, generators, illegal connection of electric wires, mosquito coils, drying of fish, gasoline, tire, charcoal and coal pot as well as electrical shock, among others.
As per the statistics, Garyah disclosed that Montserrado County recorded a total of 103 fire outbreaks followed by Grand Bassa and Margibi Counties with five outbreaks each.
Garyah also disclosed that Maryland County recorded only two fire incidents, while River Gee, Grand Gedeh, Sinoe, Nimba and Bomi Counties recorded at least one fire incident in 2018.
She told LINA that the rest of the counties in Liberia did not experience any fire outbreaks during the course of 2018.
Meanwhile, the LNFS Communication Director has urged citizens to desist from the use of illegal connections of electricity saying such an act usually leads to fire outbreaks in communities around the country.
Garyah encouraged citizens to also ensure that they install fire extinguishers in their homes to help then respond in emergencies.
