Results of the Senatorial and Representative by-elections and Liberian Muslims departing for Mecca for the annual Pilgrimage dominate the headlines in the Monday, August 5 editions of Liberian newspapers.
The election outfit, National Elections Commission, has announced Darius Dillon, candidate of the opposition collaborating political parties as winner of the Senatorial By-election in Montserrado County.
According to NEC Chairman Jerome Korkoya, Dillon obtained 102,549 votes, representing 55. 74 of the total ballots cast, while Paulita C.C. Wie, the ruling Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) candidate had 63,971 votes representing 34.77 percent of the total votes. In the Representative By-election, Ms. Telia Urey, the candidate of opposition collaborating parties, is slightly leading the CDC candidate Abu Kamara.
