President George Weah’s assurance that the planned June 7 protest will be peaceful and Council of Patriots rejecting ECOWAS plea for a one-day protest dominate the headlines in Monday’s editions of Liberian newspapers.
President George Manneh Weah is encouraging Liberians to go about their normal businesses on June 7 at which time the planned protest by the group under the banner Council of Patriots (CoP) is expected to take place.
President Weah told Liberians to fear nothing as there would be no disturbance on that day. The Inquirer newspaper published this story as its front page banner headline under the caption:”Nobody Will Disturb You on June 7″-Weah Allays Citizens’ Fears.
At the same time, the Liberian leader has reportedly told the ECOWAS delegation that visited Liberia last week that former president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and the current Vice President, Jewel Howard Taylor are quietly supporting Friday’s planned protest by the Council of Patriots.
President Weah made the disclosure during a closed door discussion with the Head of the ECOWAS Commission Jean Claude Kassi Brou at his Foreign Ministry office in Monrovia.
