The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia Maj. Gen. Prince C. Johnson, III, has lauded the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) contingent in Mali for its role in the United Nations Peacekeeping operations in that sisterly West African country.
“The flag of Liberia continues to fly high among other countries on the mission. Since the deployment of Liberian troops in Mali, they have exhibited high degree of professionalism; something which has prompted the UN to request the increase of Liberian troops in Mali,”
Major General Johnson said.
According to a Ministry of Defense press statement issued here Wednesday, the AFL Chief of Staff assured Liberians that the AFL will remain a “Force for Good” in the common interest of the country.
He said the Liberian Army under his watch will not get involved in politics as was the case in the past, which, he noted, damaged the image of the force.
Major General Johnson said as Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia his primary objective is to uphold the professionalism of the army.
The Liberian Army Chief of Staff said those vices that politicized the army which resulted into the AFL being factionalized in the past will not be tolerated.
“We all saw how factionalized our military became during our civil conflict because of its involvement into politics, but you can be assured that it will not happen with this new army,” the statement
quoted him as saying.
