President George Manneh Weah at the weekend toured several communities across Monrovia and its environs in continuation of his routine road inspection intended to keep contractors and engineers in check, monitor work progress and also to
mobilize citizens’ cooperation with contractors.
During the tour, President Weah held tete-a-tete with contractors on progress and challenges they may face in a bid to motivate them step up to meet deadlines.
The tour, which began with the ongoing Gardnersville Freeway Project, also took the Liberian leader to the road projects in the Red-light, Soul Clinic and Moses Z. Blah communities.
He later moved to the road projects in the Pipeline, Johnsonville and Patience Shop communities on the outskirts of the capital Monrovia.
Dozens of residents lined the community roads to welcome the President and entourage and to express appreciation for Government’s tirelessly efforts in building roads, expanding supply of water and electricity and transforming the nation’s age-old social service bottlenecks.
The citizens chanted, “Bad road medicine!; Bad road medicine; Bad road medicine!” and other pro-government slogans.
Along the Somalia Drive, the President Weah appreciated contractors during the tour; and also drew attention to the heaps of garbage, used plastic bags and other filth that litter the road.
President Weah, who appeared somehow unsettled upon seeing the heap of garbage at the Somalia Drive Road Project, called on community residents, mainly marketers selling in the area, to ensure that the road is dirt-free.
“I want you people to take responsibility, he told the locals. “Make sure that there is no dirt here. Maybe, you are not getting the message from others, but it is good I am giving it to you.”
“While it is true that we are working for you and you are supporting us, I ask you to keep the area clean.”
President Weah informed the residents that the government would take the necessary action if the situation was not taken care of by the marketers who are always accused of depositing filth in the open.
The Liberian Head of State was accompanied on the road inspection tour by officials of government, including senior staffers of the Ministry of Public Works led by Minister Mobutu Vlah Nyenpan, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel Farlo McGill, and many others.
