Liberia’s President Dr. George Manneh Weah has reassured citizens of his government’s commitment to promoting peace and protecting the basic rights of citizens across the country.
Weah said he believes that upholding the peace and guarding the rights of every citizen will positively change the nation and eradicate internal wrangling among nationals.
Pres. Weah made the statement Saturday at an event marking the campaign launch of the senatorial and representative by-elections of candidates of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change held at the party’s national headquarters in the Monrovia suburb of Sinkor.
The Liberian leader assured that under his administration no one will lose his or her life because they want to protest against the administration, and that the government will make sure everyone who
gets in the street must be there orderly because their rights have to be protected.
He recalled that in the past individuals who spoke about human rights had their houses burnt or they were taken to prison and in some instances protesters were shot at only because they advocated for their rights.
According to the Chief Executive, people who killed their brothers and sisters and abused human rights are now calling for respect of people’s rights, and assured that his administration will continue to promote peace and protect the rights of the citizenry.
He also stressed that his government’s will continue to respect and protect the fundamental rights and freedoms of all Liberians, irrespective of their political, tribal, and religious backgrounds.
