APA-Tripoli (Libye) The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily while in Rabat on Thursday stressed the need to reach consensual solutions as soon as possible,” given that “the current situation can no longer be allowed to continue, and is fraught with major risks.”
At a joint press briefing with the Moroccan Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita, the UN Representative pointed out that monitoring the implementation of organic election laws and related agreements in a country beset by tensions and conflicts such as Libya necessarily requires reaching agreements based on good faith between the political players.
Recalling that Libya is currently positioned in a region marked by tensions, the UN official indicated that the Libyan people and the international community aspire to peace in the troubled country.
He also referred to the repercussions of the tension on regional and global security, given Libya’s geostrategic position.
Bathily also highlighted the role played by Morocco in the success of the inter-Libyan dialogue, notably through the kingdom’s commitment to the country’s electoral process.
“We are delighted with the results achieved thanks to Morocco’s support, and we hope that the kingdom will continue to accompany this political process, especially as we are in the process of implementing the organic election laws and related agreements,” he said.
