Libya’s new interim Prime Minister, Abdelhamid Dbeibah on Monday took oath of office at the provisional seat of parliament in Tobruk to serve as head of the transitional government.
This is another step in the process of recovery of Libya. Abdelhamid Dbeibah and his government have pledged to “preserve the unity, security and integrity” of their country. The Speaker of Parliament, Aguila Saleh, and several ambassadors attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Mr. Dbeibah was appointed interim Prime Minister on 5 February by 75 Libyan officials meeting in Geneva (Switzerland) under the auspices of the United Nations (UN). His mission is to lead the transition until the elections scheduled for 24 December.
Divided since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, Libya now has a national unity government composed of two deputy prime ministers, 26 ministers and six ministers of state. The new executive won a vote of confidence from MPs last Wednesday.
