A lightning strike at a school in Rulindo, a district in Northern Rwanda landed 11 students in hospital, with the victims experiencing “mild tingling symptoms”, a senior local administrative official confirmed to APA Thursday.
The Mayor of Rulindo district, Judith Mukanyirigira said all young students were returning back home from school when lightning struck nearby along the street.
All patients were transported to a nearby hospital in a stable condition with mild physical complaints, she said.
Rwanda Meteorological Agency has predicted heavy rains mixed with strong winds and lightning strikes from March 21 to March 31.
According to the ministry in charge of emergency management, over `170 people have succumbed to weather-induced disasters since last year while over 240 were injured.
