APA – Kigali (Rwanda)- The M23 rebel group on Friday condemned the continued burning of villages of innocent Tutsi families in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) by Government forces stressing that these crimes will not go unpunished.
In a statement seen by APA, the rebel movement reminds the United Nations and the International community that the DR Congo Government continues with its warmongering program attacking M23 positions instead of giving a chance for a peaceful solution to the ongoing conflict in Eastern DR Congo.
The M23 is calling upon the East African Community to clarify the matter as in these circumstances one state member has become belligerent to the conflict and fully participating on the frontline alongside DR Congo Government forces.
According to the statement, EACRF – Burundi contingent is one in charge of villages of Mushaki, Karubam Kitchanga and Mwesso where the Tutsi community continue to be killed, their property destroyed and are forced to abandon their ancestral land.
The Burundian army is wearing FARDC uniforms and have established their headquarters in the village of Minova, it said.
The statement signed by Lawrence Kanyuka, the rebel spokesperson, adds that the M23 will not stand by watching the civilian population being massacred, displaced and left homeless.
“As it stands, the M23 continues to defend itself professionally, protecting the civilian population and its belongings as well as scholls and places of worship”
