Political activist Bon Kalindo has threatened to close the country’s borders if President Lazarus Chakwera’s government fails to address the socio-economic challenges facing ordinary Malawians.
Speaking on the eve of Friday’s planned protest in Mzuzu, Kalindo said the government should honour its electoral promises and address issues such as high water tariffs and albino killings that have rocked the country for several years.
He said he would lead thousands of Mzuzu residents on Friday to press the government to come clean on the promises for which people voted for the Tonse Alliance comprising Chakwera’s Malawi Congress Party and the United Transformation Movement (UTM) of Deputy President Saulos Chilima.
The activist warned that the Mzuzu demonstration could spill over to other parts of the country and the protesters would order the closure of borders should these demands not be addressed.
The former UTM youth leader dared the government to arrest him, warning that he was in possession of sensitive information that is damaging to Chakwera and Chilima.
