Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) has suspended all local and international activities due to coronavirus threats.
The Council’s Acting Executive Secretary, Henry Meleka said in the commercial city of Blantyre on Tuesday that sports associations are requested to stop sending their athletes to international engagements as well as local sports activities.
“All sports activities have been suspended with the view to monitor the situation until government of Malawi advises on how to go about it,” he said.
He added that Malawi’s sport is part of the global family and it has a serious obligation to take part in fighting and preventing the contracting and spreading of the disease.
Though, no confirmed Covid-19 case is reported in the country so far, President Peter Mutharika has taken preventive measures like declaring coronavirus a national disaster. These measures include the closure on Monday of schools, colleges, both private and public universities.
Meanwhile Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has also suspended it’s activities.
