Malawi and Tanzania have signed a series of agreements aimed at strengthening cooperation in health, security, trade, and information and communication technology.
The agreements were finalised during the 6th Session of the Malawi-Tanzania Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation (JPCC) held in Lilongwe on Wednesday.
Malawi’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nancy Tembo and her Tanzanian counterpart, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, led the discussions, which also reviewed progress on previous commitments and addressed emerging issues.
Among the key agreements signed were a Memorandum of Understanding on Health and an Agreement on Sentenced Persons Transfer.
The two ministers urged officials to fast-track the implementation of all agreed decisions.
Speaking at the session, Tembo highlighted the significance of Malawi’s cooperation with Tanzania, noting that the neighbouring country provides a vital trade route to the sea and enhances business opportunities for Malawian cross-border traders.
A mid-term review of the JPCC will take place in February 2026, with the next full session scheduled for February 2027 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
