Malawi will host an annual general conference for the Electoral Commissions Forum of the Southern African Development Community (ECF-SADC) slated for September 22 to 27, in the commercial city of Blantyre.

According to a statement seen by APA on Saturday, signed by Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) chairperson, Jane Ansah, the conference will be held alongside a day long seminar to discuss matters of elections in the region.
“The seminar aims at enhancing credibility of elections through observation,” it said.
EFC is a network of the electoral management bodies from SADC countries in which Ansah is the current president.
The conference will be held at a time when the human rights watchdog, the Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) and the opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and United Transformation Movement (UTM) are holding demonstrations demanding Ansah to resign for an alleged mismanagement of the May 21 elections.
The demonstrations started in June this year under the “Jane Ansah Must Fall” banner.
