In a statement carried by several media outlets, AQMI claimed the attack was in response to the visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu to Chad.
The attack on the Chadian MINUSMA contingent was in Aguelhok, in northern Mali.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in a statement published Sunday evening on the MINUSMA website, confirmed the death of “ten Chadian peacekeepers and at least 25 wounded,” and strongly condemned the attack.
