The former Prime Minister of Mali died on Monday in a clinic in the capital Bamako, where he had been undergoing treatment since December.
He was the President of the Alliance for Solidarity-Convergence of Patriotic Forces (ASMA-CFP).
Incarcerated since August last year, Soumeylou Boubeye Maiga’s health had deteriorating in recent weeks, prompting his family to ask the transitional authorities for his evacuation abroad.
Born on June 8, 1954 in Gao, Soumeylou Boubeye Maiga served as head of the intelligence services, and eventually became Minister of Foreign Affairs and Secretary General of the Presidency.
He served as Prime Minister from December 30, 2017 to April 23, 2019.
